Pompano Beach eatery faces closure due to severe health violations |
Health inspectors have ordered the closure of Saveur Tropical Restaurant in Pompano Beach after discovering three dead rodents inside a reach-in cooler during a follow-up inspection.
In addition to the deceased rodents, inspectors found fresh droppings behind kitchen equipment, raising serious concerns about the restaurant's sanitation practices.
This incident marks the third closure for Saveur Tropical Restaurant due to pest-related issues.
Previous shutdowns occurred on May 24, 2024, for rodent problems, and on October 31, 2023, for a roach infestation.
During the latest inspection, officials observed approximately 20 rodent droppings on a food prep table and about 50 more on container lids stored on the bottom shelf of the same table.
Additionally, three live roaches were found inside a can opener holder at the food prep station.
Further violations included operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license, which had lapsed on December 1, 2025.
Following the closure, the restaurant was permitted to reopen after addressing the violations and passing a re-inspection.
However, the recurrence of such severe health infractions raises questions about the establishment's commitment to maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for its patrons.
In related news, Charley's Philly Steaks at Broward Mall was also ordered shut on December 18 due to similar health violations, including the presence of live and dead roaches.
This marks the second restaurant closure at the mall in recent weeks, highlighting a troubling trend in the area.
Both establishments have since reopened after complying with health department requirements.
These incidents underscore the importance of stringent health and safety standards in food service establishments to protect public health. |
